Research Studies

The research component of this project has required of ongoing collaboration between HELP and the Infant Development Program (IDP) of BC. Some of the information was gathered through interviews conducted with parents of risk children who participated in the IDP program.

To view the steps that were involved in the recruiting and collecting of data for the IDP case studies, as well as the next phase of the case study component of SDPP, please read SDPP: The Plan for 2007-2008 IDP Case Studies.

On July 5, 2007, we presented the three-phase study of a population of at risk children from birth to age nine at UBC Robson square. This study includes the NICU study and the IDP case studies of parents of at risk children study. Please click on the link below to preview a power point presentation of the three phase study:

“A Multiple Case Study of the Children and Families in the IDP of BC” is a qualitative study that utilized interviews of parents of children who have participated in the IDP program. A manuscript of the study is currently in progress. For a preview of a 2009 power point presentation, please view Time, Timely, Timing: Learning from IDP Parents’ Multiple Case Study.

Please also see below for a presentation given by Lara El-Khatib and Mari Pighini.

Public Participation

As we stated previously, this website is mainly about the social inclusion of at risk children and their families project (also known as the Social Development Partnerships Program or SDPP). In early 2007 we presented an outline of the SDPP and gave our audience information on how to participate in our project. For the complete presentation files and handout from the information session, please click on the following link:

We originally targeted communities in the Lower Mainland, (including Abbottsford, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, West Vancouver and White Rock). After more than 40 public presentations, the feedback we received encouraged us to expand the range of the Healthcare Locator. As of August 2009, it includes links for all five regions in BC and contacts for Aboriginal Health Units in each one of these regions.
